Schubert 9 and The Egyptian

“Schubert and the Egyptian” is a whimsical title capturing the fun essence of this concert featuring two popular composers French composer Saint-Saens and Viennese master Franz Schubert. From the Late Romantic period we feature the Piano Concerto No. 5 in F major by Saint-Saens, the most important French composer of that era. We know Saint-Saens from his popular pieces such as Carnival of the Animals and Dance Macabre. He wrote so many more important works including his great “Organ Symphony No.3 and 5 piano concertos. This concerto, known popularly as the “Egyptian” mostly because of its exotic 2nd movement, is a work of bounteous lyricism.. It’s an absolutely beautiful concerto as will be aptly demonstrated by our soloist Stephen Beus. (Stephen appeared in 2015 performing Schumann during Festival Amadeus)
